It is not an exaggeration to say I've been waiting for The Duke's Match Girl for a long while. When I heard that Lila DiPasqua was writing a story loosely based upon the Hans Christian Andersen tale, I didn't know how she'd pull it off. Boy, did she deliver.Leopold d'Ermant, the Duc de Mont-Marly (Leo for short) is given a second chance at finding his happily ever after with the one woman he can't forget - Suzanne Machet (clever right?). Seems Leo and Suzanne grew up being best friends before they became lovers. I won't spoil the story for you, but let's just say Leo has a lot of work ahead of him to make amends for his bad deeds. He wants Suzanne back into his life and into his arms. She's smart, quick-witted, and a joy to all that know her. But she's not going to forget the past. It's a wonderfully told tale that caused me to laugh one moment at the opening scene with Leo's brothers then cry minutes later as Suzanne reveals her grief at the loss of her father and the loss of Leo all those years ago. It was easy for me to fall in love with Leo and Suzanne within the first few pages. As I've come to expect of Lila DiPasqua stories, this one is hot (fans hand across the face) and the characters are vibrant.
During the busy holiday season when I have little time for myself, I plan to grab a glass of wine, hide out, and enjoy this beautifully told Christmas story again. Yes, I think it's that wonderful of a story that I want to read it again. It'll be on my keeper shelf.

I enjoyed reading this book. I like women with back bone...who will stand up for themselves. Women who don't sit around waiting for someone to take care of them. Women who let the man know they aren't going to be abused. Good story!
It's great to read a historical romance that doesn't take place in jolly old England. There are other countries that exists. I was prepared for a formulated story about a rich guy who does wrong with the love of his life and now is he begging for another chance. I was surprised to find out I actually like both the hero and heroine. It's a good book and interesting peek into a different part of European historical culture.
This was a great read in the lead up to Christmas, a retelling of The Little Match Girl, a Hans Christian Anderson Christmas Fairytale. Only this one is a lot more grown up, and very, very sexy.
A wonderful second chance/hate to love story with a feisty heroine. Slow build, which I love, with off the charts erotica when you finally get there. I'll never think of champagne and ice cream the same again ;-)
The Duke's Match Girl by Lila DiPasqua is a fairly short historical romance, a great choice for those with little time for reading. Miss DiPasqua has delivered a well written book. The characters are lovable. Suzanne and Leo's story is full of drama, humor and sexy bits. I enjoyed reading The Duke's Match Girl and look forward to reading more from Lila DiPasqua in the future. The Duke's Match Girl is book 3 in the Fiery Tales Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.
Seven years ago, Leopold d'Ermart, the Duke of Mont-Marly broke Suzanne Matchet's heart and she has done her best to forget him. But suddenly he is back and doing everything he can to win her heart.
Leo and Suzanne grew up the best of friends, but one Christmas Eve everything changed. They had one magical night and then Leo crushed that dream. Unfortunately, Leo knew that he was already pledged to wed another. He didn't want her to be heartbroken when he left, so he tried to make her hate him.
Seven years have passed and suddenly Leo is back in Suzanne's life. He has always been in love with his childhood friend and now that he is free, nothing will stop him from having her.
Leo has sent his man of business to see if Suzanne will come and make perfume for his sisters as a Christmas gift. She turned down his offer, so he goes to her.
Even in person, Leo can not convince Suzanne to travel back to her childhood home for the Christmas season. He proceeds to use all his wealth and power to try and convince her to come back with him.
Will Leo be able to convince Suzanne to come back home with him? Will Suzanne risk her heart to be with the love of her life again?
This was a great novella. I often feel cheated at the end of a novella because things progress way too fast to be realistic or there is not enough depth to the story. That was not true for this story. DiPasqua has a talent for telling a detailed story in a short amount of words. This is the first book that I have read by this author and it will definitely not be my last. I can't wait to go back and read the other books in her Fiery Tales series.
I read this book in a collection, but it is not on at this time so I was thrilled when I found this copy as I so wanted to review that wonderful collection. This story is one of my favorites. It is a re-telling of a fairy tale with a super twist. It is Suzanne and Leo story and how Leo got a second chance. This beautifully written work has strong characters and storyline that you will love reading. I am kind of glad I have this copy so I can lead it some of my friends
This is an excellent bedtime story!!! The Duke is soooooooooo romantic !!! The end brought tears to my eyes.
Miss Matchet played hard to get, but the duke deserved it. I only wish this was a full novel. Anyway, I enjoyed every second of this book!
Lila DiPasqua is a talented author. She has a way with words that can create such a beautiful and delicious love story. This book is slightly naughty but in no way does it make you feel dirty!!! It's sensual and romantic! It makes you put your hand on your heart and sigh!! That's how good!!
